Elijah Kirby is the owner, founding meteorologist, and driving force behind Southern Tennessee Weather, formerly known as Shelbyville Weather.

Born in Hopkinsville, KY but raised in Bedford County, Tennessee since he was 5 years old, Elijah has called the Shelbyville / Normandy area home for most of his life. His connection to Southern Middle Tennessee runs deep, and that local perspective continues to shape the way he serves the community today.

Elijah’s love of weather has a complicated past. What began as storm anxiety during childhood — something he knows many people across the South can relate to — gradually transformed into fascination. He quickly discovered that understanding the weather helped ease his fears, leading him to spend countless hours watching The Weather Channel and studying every storm that passed through the region. That curiosity grew into a lifelong passion, and ultimately, a calling.

While still in high school in 2018, Elijah launched Shelbyville Weather with a simple goal: provide clear, hyper-local forecasts and lifesaving storm updates for his hometown. What started as a small community-driven project quickly gained momentum, especially during high-impact weather events where timely, understandable information mattered most.

Over time, that effort evolved into Southern Tennessee Weather — now one of the region’s most trusted sources for weather information. The rebrand marked a major step forward, expanding coverage across Bedford, Coffee, Franklin, Grundy, Marshall, Maury, and Moore counties while embracing a modern, multi-platform approach. Today, Southern Tennessee Weather delivers content through smartphone apps, smart TV streaming platforms, social media, a 24/7 live weather channel, and a growing network of live weather cameras across the region.

Southern Tennessee Weather now reaches tens of thousands of people every day, with millions of views generated during major weather events. With over 30,000 followers and partnerships spanning local schools, businesses, emergency management, and organizations like Duck River Electric, the platform has become a cornerstone of community safety, education, and engagement across Southern Middle Tennessee.

Elijah is a graduate of the University of Alabama in Huntsville, where he studied Atmospheric and Earth Systems with a focus on operational meteorology and atmospheric science. He actively works alongside the National Weather Service Nashville and participates in programs such as #tSpotter, providing real-time reports and collaborating during severe weather events to support warning operations and public safety.

In addition to his digital and broadcast platforms, Elijah serves as an on-air radio meteorologist for multiple stations across the region, including Thunder Radio, WLIJ, The Zinger 100.9, The Rooster 101.5, 93.9 The Duck, and Whiskey Country. Through these partnerships, he delivers daily forecasts and severe weather updates to listeners across Southern Middle Tennessee, expanding the reach of Southern Tennessee Weather into homes, vehicles, and workplaces across the area.

Beyond forecasting, Elijah leads Southern Tennessee Media LLC, the parent company behind Southern Tennessee Weather — managing sponsorships, building media partnerships, and overseeing technical operations such as weather camera installations and streaming infrastructure. His work blends meteorology, communication, and business to create a modern, community-focused weather platform.

A familiar face (and voice) both online and on-air, Elijah delivers consistent, live coverage during severe weather, often streaming across multiple platforms simultaneously to ensure information reaches as many people as possible. His approach is rooted in clarity, urgency when needed, and a commitment to cutting through the noise with no-hype, trustworthy information.

At just 23 years old, Elijah continues to grow Southern Tennessee Weather with a forward-looking vision while staying grounded in the same mission he started with — to serve his neighbors, protect his community, and provide clear, reliable weather information when it matters most.

Christopher King

Christopher King is a meteorologist with Southern Tennessee Weather and the founder of Christopher King WX, a platform that has grown into a trusted source of weather information for communities across Tullahoma, Franklin, and Moore counties.

Christopher’s passion for weather began at a young age growing up in Lynchburg, Tennessee. While many kids were watching cartoons, he was tuned into The Weather Channel, captivated by “Local on the 8s” and the stories behind each forecast. Severe weather, in particular, sparked a deep curiosity. While it often brought fear to others, it pushed him to understand the why behind what was happening in the sky. That curiosity only deepened as he began watching coverage out of the Huntsville television market, where veteran meteorologist Dan Satterfield helped shape his early understanding of weather through clear, passionate explanations.

After graduating from Moore County High School in 2003, Christopher pursued a career in education. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Tennessee Technological University in 2008 and his Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Middle Tennessee State University in 2013. Over nearly two decades in the classroom, he developed a teaching style centered on clarity, confidence, and connection—an approach that now defines how he communicates weather to the public.

In 2010, Christopher expanded his involvement in meteorology by completing storm spotter training through the National Weather Service and becoming an active participant in Skywarn. His years as a spotter provided valuable real-world experience and further strengthened his ability to communicate severe weather risks effectively.

What began as simple Facebook updates for friends gradually evolved into a trusted community resource. Over time, that effort grew into Christopher King WX, where he became a reliable voice for residents across Southern Middle Tennessee—providing daily forecasts, real-time updates, and critical information during severe weather events. His mission has remained consistent throughout: serve his neighbors, keep them informed, and give back to the community when it matters most.

At age 40, rather than slowing down, Christopher chose to continue growing. He is currently pursuing an Undergraduate Certificate in Weather Forecasting from Pennsylvania State University, further strengthening the knowledge and credibility he brings to Southern Tennessee Weather. His commitment to lifelong learning reflects both a professional dedication and a personal example for his children—that it is never too late to chase a passion.

Now part of the Southern Tennessee Weather team, Christopher plays a key role in expanding hyper-local coverage across Marshall, Maury, Bedford, Coffee, Moore, Franklin, and Grundy counties. Known for his calm, educational, and no-hype approach, he helps viewers not only know what to expect—but understand why it matters.

A husband, father, and proud member of the community he serves, Christopher remains grounded in his mission: to provide clear, honest, and reliable weather information that helps families stay safe and make confident decisions when weather impacts their lives.
