Elijah Kirby is the owner, meteorologist, and driving force behind Southern Tennessee Weather, formerly known as Shelbyville Weather.
Elijah’s love of weather has a complicated past. What began as storm anxiety during childhood — something he knows many people experience — gradually transformed into fascination. He learned early on that understanding the weather helped ease his fears, spending countless hours watching The Weather Channel and studying every storm. That curiosity grew into a lifelong passion, and ultimately, a calling.
While still in high school around 2016, Elijah launched Shelbyville Weather to provide hyperlocal forecasts and lifesaving storm updates for his hometown. Over time, that small community project evolved into one of the region’s most trusted sources for weather information. The rebrand to Southern Tennessee Weather marks the next step in that journey — expanding coverage to Bedford, Coffee, Franklin, Grundy, Marshall, Maury, and Moore counties with a modern, multi-platform approach that includes mobile apps, smart-TV streaming, social media, and a growing network of live weather cameras.
Today, Southern Tennessee Weather reaches tens of thousands of residents every day through digital updates, social media, and real-time livestream coverage during severe weather events. With over 30,000 followers and partnerships spanning local schools, businesses, and emergency management agencies, it has become a cornerstone of community safety, education, and engagement across Southern Middle Tennessee.
Elijah is a graduate of the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), where he studied Atmospheric and Earth Systems with a focus on operational meteorology and atmospheric science. He also volunteers with the National Weather Service Nashville’s #tSpotter program, providing real-time, on-the-ground reports during severe weather events via NWSChat.
Beyond forecasting, Elijah leads Southern Tennessee Media LLC, the parent company behind Southern Tennessee Weather — managing sponsorships, weather camera installations, and media partnerships that connect residents, schools, and businesses through innovation and collaboration.
A familiar face both online and on-air, Elijah continues to deliver the region’s most personal and dependable weather coverage across our website, smartphone apps, Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), YouTube, and local radio. His mission remains the same as the day he began — to keep Southern Tennessee informed, prepared, and connected when weather matters most.
